All New Summer Camps
UMOCA is excited to team up with Discovery Gateway to offer summer camp opportunities for your second/third grader and your fourth/fifth grader!
During this camp, discover ways that art and science illuminate what it means to reduce, reuse, and recycle. Starting at Discovery Gateway at 8 am, use your imagination to transform trash into treasure. Create unique works of art with unusual materials and unearth the essential reasons why we recycle through science experiments and hands-on projects. Then, head to the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art to explore recycled materials in art, gain inspiration from the outdoors, and use the fundamentals of art as a springboard for creating a functional outdoor sculpture in UMOCA’s gardens throughout the E.A.T. community outreach exhibition. Each day will finish up at 4 pm. For more information, contact Elly Baldwin by email or 801.328.4201.
Meet UMOCA’s Camp Leader
Elly Baldwin is an artist, educator and advocate for creativity of all kinds! She joined UMOCA in early 2013 and has since brought art education experiences to students and the public in the Salt Lake City area through on-site mobile Art Truck tours, Family Art Saturday activities and school tours of the museum’s exhibit halls. Elly has developed and led summer camps in the past, and is thrilled to be leading UMOCA’s first ever summer camps in conjunction with Discovery Gateway this year.
I’m excited for camps because they will to show how art is relevant to things you might not expect, like recycling,” Elly says. “Art is not only a way of expression but also a way for kids to explore the world.”
