Call for Artists


UMOCA and the Downtown Alliance are seeking 13 artists to participate in their secretEVE project. secretEVE is a 3 night exhibition that coincides with the Downtown Alliance’s EVE events. Each accepted artist will be asked to create a single small scale site-specific installation that exists on a predetermined path from the Gateway to UMOCA to the Salt Palace. Installations may also be created inside the Salt Palace. The installations will be part of a scavenger hunt for EVE. Visitors are encouraged to photograph each installation they find and post their picture to instagram with a #secretEVE hashtag. Installations must be installed by December 28th and removed by January 4th. UMOCA asks interested artists to send up to 5 images of their work in JPEG format or a link to a personal website to Jared Steffensen at Deadline for submissions is December 6th. Artist Made Karaoke:

The Utah Museum of Contemporary Art is now accepting submissions for “Artist-Made Karaoke Videos.” Selected submissions will be on view throughout the EVE celebration at UMOCA. Visitors will be able to drop in and sing along to artist karaoke for free on December 29th-31st from 6-10PM.

A $100 prize will be given for “Best Video.” The winner will be determined by votes from the audience. The winning video will also be featured on our Facebook page.

Submissions are due no later than December 18th 2013. Selected artist will be contacted by December 20th. Winner of “Best Video” will be announced January 6th 2013.


Submission Process:

  1. Songs must be chosen from our pre-approved list. Pick a song and email your 1st and 2nd choice to . You will receive an email indicating which song is available; you may then you can get started making your video. By choosing a song from our list, you are committing to complete a video submission for that song. If you’d like to use a song that’s not on our list, please send an email with the song information, we will determine if it’s appropriate and then let you know, so you can get started working on it.
  2. Videos must be appropriate for all ages, and free of vulgar language or otherwise inappropriate content. If your video is deemed inappropriate, it will not be used for the event.
  3. Videos must contain lyrics, by way of an audio track and subtitles.
  4. Submit completed videos in QuickTime format (.mov or .m4v). Files must be no larger than 2GB.

Submission of videos grants UMOCA a non-exclusive license in perpetuity to use said images in furtherance of UMOCA’s charitable purposes.
