UMOCA Will ‘Cut the Fat’ Again This Year With Art Fitness Training. Get Your Contemporary Art Appreciation In Shape

April 6th, 13th and 20th, 3:00–5:30 PM

Salt Lake City – The Utah Museum of Contemporary Art (UMOCA) is happy to announce the return of Art Fitness Training, an innovative art-education program that will provide Utahns the opportunity to learn the skills they need to understand Contemporary Art concepts and to flex their art muscles at museums and private collections everywhere. Workout attire is optional.

Art amateurs and connoisseurs alike will exercise their responses to contemporary art during this three-part participatory workshop, which aims to develop greater strength and flexibility. “Art Fitness Training is designed to help our participants understand that they already have the tools necessary to understand contemporary art, we just provide them with the steps to unlock those tools,” says UMOCA’s Curator of Education, Jared Steffensen. “They leave the sessions feeling empowered and ready to tackle anything an artist sends their way.”

In three easy steps, participants will see first-hand how people respond to, live with and consider contemporary art. Post-workout, participants will be able to approach art with confidence, impress their friends with their ability make sense of contemporary art, and look darn good standing around at an exhibition opening. No sweat.

Registration begins now. Classes are held in three locations throughout Salt Lake City from 3:00 – 5:30 April 6th, 13th and 20th.

Past participants have raved about their experience with Art Fitness Training. One new art buff declared:  “I am no longer intimidated by these super contemporary pieces,” while another stated “I now feel liberated—I can walk into a museum and look at art in a different way without relying on someone else to do it for me.”

Art Fitness Training is designed for adults. Class details, including directions to each venue and parking information will be provided with registration packet. Registration is $75, or $60 for UMOCA members (limit two tickets per member) $40 for students, and includes participation in all three classes. Register at https://www.utahmoca.org/art-fitness/. Space is limited.
