Slow Down on April 9, 2016 with the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art
This is a worldwide celebration with a simple mission: to help more people take their time and discover for themselves the joy of art. When people look at a piece of art slowly, they can explore, experience, and discover on their own terms. It’s a chance to unlock a newfound appreciation and understanding of art—to inspire creativity and imagination.
We’re excited to welcome museumgoers into our six gallery spaces, which comprise contemporary works by local, national, and international artists that range widely in subject and in medium. Contemporary art is distinctive in that it reflects and examines the present. By taking some time to look at a painting, installation, or film, we have a chance to gain insight not only into the art but also into our current culture and daily lives.
Here’s what to do:
Come visit UMOCA on Saturday, April 9, 2016. We’ll have a handout to help guide you as you go through each of our exhibitions and choose at least one work in each to look at—slowly—for 5 to 10 minutes. Of course, go through all of our exhibitions, and slow down for pieces that really catch your attention. Afterward, visitors are encouraged to share their experiences with one another as well as on social media with #SlowArtDay2016 and #UMOCA.
