Trent Call: Processed

Past

Projects Gallery: DEC 12 – JAN 17
Opening Reception: DEC 12 | 7-9 PM

In 2013 the fast food industry in the United States alone brought in $160 billion dollars.  In order to generate such massive revenue, the industry is built on marketing scheme of homogeneity and reducibility wherein a customer can expect to receive the same basic product with the same flavors and textures no matter where they are ordering it.  The images used to market this food are oftentimes not food at all, but rather elaborate, hyper-real models that function as simulacra for the ideal product that we will never receive.

Processed is an exploration and critique of a society that espouses the value of the local, the organic, and the handcrafted, while paradoxically continues to consume the mass produced and banal at a staggering rate.  Using the very images, advertisements, and coupons that fast food companies employ to entice, Call creates frenetic collages, paintings and digital works that oversaturate our visual senses.
